CyberBasicSOS Executive Mission Statement

CyberBasicSOS exists to close the critical gap in cybersecurity knowledge, governance understanding, and mission awareness within the Department of the War (DoW). As cyber threats increasingly endanger national security, we are committed to ensuring that DoW personnel—military, civilian, and contractor—are properly educated to protect the sensitive information and systems that directly support warfighters and mission execution. In the DoW environment, cybersecurity is not an IT function or a business enabler; it is a life-preserving mission function.

Unlike private industry, where cybersecurity primarily protects revenue and business continuity, DoW cybersecurity protects operational information that, if compromised, can lead to mission failure and loss of life. Yet many professionals supporting DoW systems lack foundational understanding of DoW-specific governance and policy, including directives from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), guidance from the Community of National Security Systems (CNSS), and formally adopted Best Business Practices such as NIST. These authorities are not compliance paperwork—they are operational safeguards designed to protect national security systems and the people who depend on them.

CyberBasicSOS delivers governance-first, mission-aligned education that restores cybersecurity to its true purpose: protecting critical information so lives can be saved. We focus on building literacy in DoW governance, chain of command, operational structures, and accountability, ensuring cybersecurity professionals understand not only how to secure systems, but how authority, reporting, and responsibility function within a warfighting institution.
